The Company


Introduction

Lean Business Systems is a coaching based hands–on consulting firm with extensive Lean implementation and Management experience. The company has acquired a broad range of experience working with clients ranging from small, Irish owned indigenous companies to Fortune 500 companies. LBS works with its clients to transform their business using Lean principles, implementing the best system for fulfilling the Value Proposition of the customers they serve.

The Lean Transformation will consist of both system and process changes that can only be realised through system driven leadership and committed people. LBS, using a learn-by-doing approach, will provide its clients with the purpose and skills to embrace this change.

This transformation will yield Customer Focused Strategic Advantage, Operational Competitiveness and a Continuous Improvement Culture.

History

Lean Business Systems was founded by Gene Leonard and Mike Cunningham in 2002 to address the needs of Irish industry in adopting a Lean Business approach to its operations and instil a culture of Continuous Improvement (CI) at all levels of its client organisations. This is regarded as key to the continued success of the many organisations LBS have been associated with since the founding of the company. It is also seen as a competitive weapon against a backdrop of increased costs and increased international competition.

Team Members

Gene Leonard:

Gene is Managing Director of LBS. He has worked for seven years in the consultancy field with major public and private sector organizations in Ireland and Internationally. Gene’s areas of specialization are in the Leadership and initiation of Change Management programmes both in manufacturing and service organizations.

Gene has acted as Client Director for a number of Process Improvement and Business Direction focused projects. He has worked as an Operations Director and as an Engineering Director with one of the World’s largest Computer Manufacturers. His experience in several start-up operations and across many disciplines, both business and manufacturing allow him to understand, analyse and plan the improvements required to make modern businesses successful.

Niall Tuite:

Niall Tuite is a Director of LBS. He is a Lean Coach (Sensei) and has worked for many years in business performance improvements in the areas of manufacturing, call centre operations and service operations, in both multinational and Small to Medium sized Enterprises. Areas of relevant specialism include Value Steam Mapping, Hoshin Planning, Kaizen Events and the application of the lean tool suite including 5s, Standard Work, Visual Control, Kanban , SMED, TPM, etc.

 A certified Black Belt, Niall has lead the Lean deployment in Dell’s Limerick manufacturing facility and has contributed to increasing the awareness of Lean Thinking potential through his involvement with the Irish Centre for Business Excellence and the Enterprise Research Centre at the University of Limerick.

Liam Rowley:

Liam has held the position of General Manager & Operations Director in a number of companies (large and small) and has vast experience in the areas of Start-Up Operations, Manufacturing Operations, Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, and NPI within High Tech, World Class Automated environments. Liam is very much a hands-on Manager with strong interpersonal, technical and project management skills and a proven track record in managing change in fast and dynamic environments.

Liam has been using lean techniques for a number of years in his different roles to implement change and continuous improvement within the various organisations.

John Killeen:

John has broad experience at Managing Director level with a number of organizations in diverse businesses. All of these roles required a focused approach on Lean techniques to achieving company objectives. During his career, John has gained experience across diverse international manufacturing environments. He has a track record of achievement in a wide variety of Commercial, Process and Discrete Manufacturing and Engineering environments. He has extensive experience in Operations, Cost reduction programmes, Project management, People management, Sales and Marketing, Engineering solutions and setting and achieving stretch targets for the various organizations he was involved in.

Dan O'Donnell

Dan is the General Manager of Lean Business Systems. He has over 21 years' experience in high volume manufacturing industry, 10 at executive level in various Supply Chain and Operational Management roles. Dan joined Lean BusinessSystems in Dec'08. He has a Bachelor of Business Studies Degree from Dublin City University (DCU),a Diploma in Lean from University of Limerick (UL) and a certificate in Production and Inventory Management from the APICS society.

Prior to joining Lean Business Systems, Dan held senior roles in Operations and Supply Chain Management including Director of Procurement with Dell Computers. He can operate both at the Strategic and Tactical level where he is very results focused. He has a strong commercial sense with wide-ranging experience of managing relationships drawn from different disciplines, cultures and geographies to achieve commercial success.

As a Lean consultant, Dan works with both SME's and Large Organisations in the Food Processing, Manufacturing and Retail sectors. He has extensive experience in people management, is a recognised mentor, team leader and motivator with strong communication and inter-personal skills.

Robert Noone

Robert has in excess of 25 years of experience in both manufacturing and in commercial roles for multinational and indigenous Irish organisations. Recent activities have been on Lean based business improvement projects in Electronics, Engineering, Food and Processing industries. Earlier projects involved the design and implementation of optimised manufacturing or processing solutions for a variety of clients in food, medical, pharmaceutical and general manufacturing industries.

Robert has a B.Sc and M.Eng in electronic engineering and computer systems from the University of Limerick and a diploma in International Sales from DIT.

Maurice O'Brien

Maurice holds a B.Eng. in Production Engineering and a Diploma in Quality Management (Lean Systems) from the University of Limerick. He holds a City and Guilds qualification in Computer Aided Drafting and Design (2D and 3D).

His background includes engineering and quality roles with both multinational companies and smaller indigenous Irish companies. He has extensive experience in the areas of Project Management, Manufacturing Engineering and New Product Introduction.

As a certified Lean Black Belt he has lead the implementation of business improvement projects ranging from productivity/process improvement to layout re-design to 5S/workplace organisation, in industries as diverse as aerospace, food, injection moulding and reverse logistics. He has also held the role of Program/Project Manager; during which time he successfully managed both hardware installations of bespoke automation and software management projects in the financial sector.
